Most people buy a collar without ever thinking about its four working parts — until something rubs, rattles or breaks. Here is the tour: what each piece does, and what to look for in good work.
The band is what actually touches your pet, so it does most of the comfort work. Ours is vegan leather: soft from day one, easy to wipe, with edges finished so nothing digs in. The band is also where adjustment lives — a thoughtful range covers real necks without bulk. Why vegan leather? That story is here.
The strand is the jewelry: crystals and accent beads threaded by hand between the hardware. Good stranding has even spacing, matched stones and no rattle. It is also the most visible signature of handmade work — machine-mounted beads sit in perfect rows; hand-strung ones have a rhythm.
Clasp and D-ring are the load-bearing parts. We favour clasps that are gentle to open and close but firm under tension, and hardware with smooth edges — jewellery standards, applied to a piece a pet actually wears. Give any clasp a light tug before ordering; if it flexes, keep looking.
The smallest part carries the most meaning — a star, a heart, a little clover. Ours sit integrated into the design rather than dangling, so they stay quiet on walks and clean in photos. What charms mean is a story of its own.
