A cat in a handmade collar is one of life's great small pleasures — and one of its great small responsibilities. Cats are escape artists, contortionists and professional opinion-havers, so a cat collar has to pass tests a dog collar never will. Here is the safety-first way to do it beautifully.
Cats who go outside — and indoor cats who dash for open doors — should always wear breakaway closures: clasps designed to pop open under load so a snagged collar never traps them. Our pieces are designed for supervised, indoor-first wear with a gentle adjustable clasp; pair them with a microchip, and let that be the real ID.
Felines wear jewelry better than almost anyone — the trick is weight. Our smallest size was strung with cats in mind: light beads on a slim band, engraved with their name, sized to sit neatly under the fluff. Sugar Star Wishes and Seashell Lullaby are two favourites on cats; the same piece also suits toy breeds and small dogs.
The two-finger rule applies to cats exactly as it does to dogs — if two fingers slide comfortably under the band, the fit is right. Re-check monthly (winter fluff changes everything), and never leave jewelry on an unsupervised cat who objects to it.
Designed for the smallest necks in the house — cats included.
